Masking Tape, Paper and Film for Automotive Painting
Good masking is the difference between a clean job and hours of rework. Melton Paint stocks automotive masking tape, masking paper, overspray film and blades for panel shops, restorers and DIY painters, dispatched next business day Australia-wide from our Melton store.
Choosing the right masking tape
Automotive masking tape is made to handle solvents and baking temperatures without lifting or leaving residue. Le'Mix LM800 green masking tape comes in 18mm, 22mm, 36mm and 48mm widths. Use the narrow widths for edges and trims, and the wide ones for holding paper and film in place.
Masking paper and film
Masking paper rolls (75mm, 150mm and 455mm Sankraft) cover glass, trims and adjoining panels. Overspray masking film (4.8m x 120m) covers a whole vehicle quickly and stops dust and overspray settling on finished panels.
Common questions
What's the difference between automotive and hardware masking tape?
Automotive masking tape resists paint solvents and booth temperatures and peels off cleanly. Hardware tape can bleed, tear or leave glue behind.
What width masking tape should I use?
18mm to 22mm for edges and trims; 36mm to 48mm for securing masking paper and film.
How long can masking tape stay on?
Remove it once the paint has flashed off and before it fully cures, so you get a clean edge.
Can I buy in store?
