Cutting Compound and Machine Polish

Melton Paint stocks cutting compounds and machine polishes from 3M Perfect-It, Farecla and Rupes for removing sanding marks, swirls and oxidation and bringing paint back to a high gloss.

Choosing a compound

• Heavy cut: 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound, 3M Fast Cut Plus Extreme, Farecla G3 Advance and Rupes Coarse compounds remove P1500 and finer sanding marks.
• Machine polish: 3M Perfect-It EX Machine Polish and Rupes Fine remove compound haze.
• Ultrafine finishing: 3M Perfect-It EX Ultrafine for dark colours and a swirl-free finish.
• Dual action polishers: 3M Random Orbital Compound and Polish, and Rupes Big Foot DA compounds.

Common questions

What's the difference between compound and polish?

Compound cuts away sanding marks and defects. Polish refines the finish and removes the haze compound leaves behind.

Can I use compound by hand?

Light compounds can be used by hand, but a rotary or dual action polisher with the right pad gives much better results.
